First meeting of National Council on India’s Nutrition Challenges under POSHAN Abhiyaan (Relevant for GS Prelims)

The first meeting of National Council on India’s Nutrition Challenges under POSHAN Abhiyaan was held today in New Delhi.

The annual targets set under POSHAN Abhiyaan beginning 2017-18 are as under:

Target of Mission is also to bring down stunting of the children in the age group of 0-6 years from 38.4% to 25% by the year 2022.

About National Nutrition Mission (Poshan Abhiyaan)
National Nutrition Mission was launched with a three-year budget commencing from 2017-18. NNM aims at improving the nutritional status of Children from 0-6 years, Pregnant Women and Lactating Mothers.

The goals of NNM include:

  1. preventing and reducing stunting in children
  2. preventing and reducing underweight prevalence in children
  3. reducing Low Birth Weight (LBW) among Children
  4. reducing the prevalence of anaemia among young Children
  5. reducing the prevalence of anaemia among Women and Adolescent Girls

Implementation – The mission focuses on convergence with various other programmes related to women and children to attain its objectives.
