Government proposes FDI relaxation in food processing ( Economic Times, 2 March)

•    Hundred per cent FDI will be allowed through the FIPB route in the marketing of food products produced and manufactured in India.

Growth of food processing industry is vital for following reasons:

1.    Food processing industry will be set near the source of raw material i. e. in rural areas. Thus, it will generate employment and income to people living in rural areas.

2.    The level of food processing in India is very low. Thus, food processing industry would lead to value addition of food products, make available convenience foods to people, etc.

3.    Also, farmers will also get remunerative prices for their agricultural produce which is used as a raw material in food processing industry.

Happy Learning 😀
