Haryana Cabinet approves Jat quota Bill (adapted from The Indian Express)

Under pressure from the agitators, the Haryana cabinet gave its nod to the Jat reservation bill.

Features of the bill:

The govt, is likely to push bill under Ninth Schedule of the Constitution to avoid judicial review.

Besides Jats, four other castes including Jat Sikhs, Rors, Bishnois, and Tyagis have been covered under the bill.

The bill will not affect existing 27% OBC reservation, instead a new category for Backward classes BC-3 would be added in additon to already existing 27 % BC-1 and BC-2.

The cabinet also cleared proposal to setup Haryana Backward Classes Commission and giving it a constitutional status.
