India-China military hotline likely (analysed from The Hindu)

India and China are close to a breakthrough in establishing a hotline between the two military headquarters as part of an effort to improve border management through a new round of confidence building measures (CBMs).

The two countries focused on CBMs through various means including establishing a hotline and increasing the local border meeting points.

The Indian Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar is on a state visit to China. He took up the issue of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) from Gwadar to Kashgar during talks and made India’s stand very clear and expressed strong reservations in regards to China’s activity in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK).

He also raised China’s role in blocking UN sanctions on Masood Azhar, head of the banned group Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and seeked to have a coordinated line on terrorism in the interest of India and China both.
